As an educator, I strive to improve music education achievement by establishing clear standards, measuring by performance, assisting educators and increasing opportunities for lifelong learning. Teaching students using a variety of instructional strategies for singing, instrumental skills, and performance practice will create a learning outcome from students that is proactive and effective for each individual’s success.

As a musician, I earned a Bachelor of Music Performance at Utah State University and continued my education at the University of Colorado-Boulder where I earned a Masters Degree in Jazz Pedagogy and Performance. My professional experience includes Ten years as a saxophonist specializing in jazz music. During this time, I have performed throughout the Rocky Mountain region with a variety of jazz ensembles including duos, trios, and big bands, many of which I have led. I have also performed at international jazz festivals such as the Park City Jazz Festival and the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival.

Music Websites for Kids

The From The Top website is designed for young classical musicians. This clever website has: The Green Room, Hall of Fame, Answer Zone, Student Lounge, a Reference Room and an area for parents and teachers. Partnered with the highly successful From The Top radio program, this site offers the more “serious” young musicians an opportunity to hear from others like them and benefit from socialization of sorts with others like themselves.

JazzKids was created for children of all ages. The website offers teachers, parents and even the youngest students the opportunity to be introduced to jazz. The interactive audio, video and curriculum are not intended to replace a teacher!
